Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play
Written by Anne Washburn
Composed by Michael Friedman and Liam Bellman-Sharpe

Presented by Yale School of Drama
It's the end of America and, possibly the world, as we know it. A catastrophic nuclear event has occurred and without access to electricity, most traces of our civilization are gone. But what survives? And what determines their survival? A ragtag group have banded together and in an attempt to hold on to their sanities, they collectively recount a story they all remember - an episode of The Simpsons. Over time a new society is formed and they are now a competitive theater troupe that specializes in recreating Simpsons episodes live, which have become valuable commodities to be traded and profited from. A few generations later, long after they are gone, the stories of The Simpsons have been yet again repurposed, this time into an epic myth to help guide and soothe this new society. This dark comedy explores how our need for art and culture evolve and examines how the pop culture of one era might evolve into the mythology and religion of another.
